Best Examples of Instructional Activities with Student
Engagement through Technology

Description of Instructional Technology: Instructional technology to me is using technology as the foundation of what I do every day in my classroom. With the integration of technology in a daily lesson my students are more engaged and excited about learning. Instructional technology is not just using powerpoint to teach a lesson but to integrate interactive manipulatives and websites resources to stimulate your learners.

Process for Determining Best Examples: My process for determining my best examples was what have I used in my classroom that has seemed to be most effective for my students and most helpful for my students in understanding a concept. I choose BrainPop because my students absolutely love this website. I have used this several times already this year for the following concepts, Exponents, Scientific Notation, and Sequences. My students are so engaged in the video and the interactive quiz that takes place after the video. The second best example that I choose was the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives because it has so many interactive manipulatives that help my student to visually see and understand a concept. I used this to help my students visualize what happens and the importance of balance when solving equations. This brought reason to my students for what they have to do when solving equations.

Why are these examples the best? I feel these examples are the best that I have to share because I have seen the most success out of my students through the use of these two examples of instructional technology. My students are more engaged in these activities than any others than I have used before in my lessons. I also feel that from using these two forms of technology my students not only show success to me but they feel successful themselves and I think that is just important because this builds a level of confidence for my students.

Reflection: By completing this project I was challenged to really think about ways that I integrate technology into my lessons and if the way that I am integrating technology is it really engaging my students. I found that there is some that I do in my classroom that does engage my students but there is so much more that I can be doing. I have so much technology in my classroom I just need to think about the ways that I am using it. Is it really benefiting my students more or just me. I am going to start looking for more ways to engage my students instead of me using all the technology and not having them really interact with it at all.

Check out BrainPop and National Library of Virtual Manipulatives. Very engaging for students and very structured for teachers. The best of both worlds!!
